JASPER
TYPEFACE | FONT STRUCT
This project is a bit different from the rest of the projects I have done. For this project I got to create my very own typeface using a software called “Font Struct”, it is even a downloadable font! Below you can see my full process of how the type got brought about.
Fall 2024
SKETCHING
The first part of this project was solely playing around and just making out the different parts of each letter. I tried to create a few different styles of type to see which one I would want to continue on with for the final piece. Using the letters "HOMRA" was a way to figure out how each part of the type would work for the entire alphabet.
THE ALPHABET
The next step of this process was all about picking out which idea I liked best and making out the entire alphabet and figuring out if there were a few letters that may needed some help. Here you can see how letters like "D", "G", "J", etc all have a few options. This was a part of my trouble shooting process to figure out what worked where.
TEST RUN
Before moving onto the digital form of the project, it was important to pick a handful of words that have capital letters rather similar to one another. Such as "O" and "D". Or even "J" and "Y". Seeing the type face by spelling out words helps see if the font is not only legible but readable too.
THE FINAL
With this process I was able to produce the typeface "Jasper", after the stone jasper which is known for grounding which is the energy I felt this typeface provided. This project was so much fun for me, I loved having creative freedom of making a rather funky type that has it's own personality.
